The
Bower at Broulee is surrounded by 300
acres of natural bushland with over 10 km of walking trails meandering
through groves of Burrawang Palms, to the perimeter of the Illawong
Nature Reserve on the western side of the Bower and then on to Candlagan
Creek which leads to the North Broulee beach. These walks provide an
opportunity to see the Native
Flora and Fauna first hand.

Accessible to the major tourist
attractions of the Nature Coast; beautiful beaches, sub-tropical rainforests,
Broulee
Island, Mogo Zoo, the Murramarang
and Montague
Island National Parks wilderness areas which provide sanctuary for
whales, native birds and other wildlife. Sea
Kayaking at Durras is highly recommended as a way to explore the
the natural and ancient cultural treasures of the NSW South Coast.
The Bower is ideal for bushwalking,
birding [or as a base camp for anything
from] sea-kayaking
to horseback riding [from nearby properties, to the beach] or simply
browsing the local craft shops & art galleries.
The Bower Bushwalks
There are 3 main walks within
the precinct of The Bower:
- Lists of avifauna and flora observed
and identified on the property over the past 10 years is available,
on request. The Bower habitat provides a haven for a colony of yellow-bellied
gliders, which are listed as vulnerable by the NSW
Dept of Environment threatened species register.
- More information about the walks including
maps and locations are provided in each Bower cabin.

Broulee and Surrounds Bushwalks
Since The
Bower is located on the South East Coast of Australia, on what
is increasingly being recognised as the Nature Coast of
NSW. The Southern NSW Coast remains relatively unspoilt by urban development
and the recent formation of new and extended boundaries to the Eurobodalla,
Deua and Murramarang National Parks means that the South Coast is likely
to retain it's attractive expanses of wilderness areas.
Broulee
Island, which is dedicated as a nature reserve, to preserve it's
fauna, flora and the remnants of the original Broulee settlement, is
a popular walk within just 2 kilometres walk from the front gate of
The Bower.
